Two ductile iron pipes manufactured by U.S. Pipe were tested by the CSI group on November 30 and December 15 of 2022. The pipes were tested under bending forces to evaluate the rotation capacity of the bell of the pipe. A finite element model was built to simulate the behavior of the pipes under bending condition. The finite element model was validated using the experimental data measured by distributed fiber optic sensors which provides continuous strain distribution data along the pipe longitude and circumference.
