Rodrigo Tapia Corvalán earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from the University of Santiago, Chile. During his Master’s research, he studied the response of metal connections in mass timber buildings subjected to seismic loads. Currently, as a Ph.D. student at the University of California, Berkeley, he is researching the use of Fiber Optic Sensing to improve the safety and resilience of structural systems.
Research interests:
- Earthquake engineering and structural dynamics
- Computational modeling
- Structural health monitoring
