Dayu Apoji was invited to talk at the Annual Congress of the Geotechnical Engineering Society Indonesia (HATTI), which was held in Jakarta on November 9, 2023. His presentation, titled “Applications of Machine Learning in Geo-Engineering, with an Emphasis on Tunneling Research,” focused on various machine learning applications in tunneling. These applications, developed over recent years at UC Berkeley, include real-time geological interpretation, real-time geological anomaly detection, and real-time estimation of ground movements during tunneling. Additionally, he briefly highlighted the potential uses of machine learning for other geotechnical and infrastructure data sets, including sensing data such as measurements from distributed fiber optic sensors, synthetic data such as results from finite element analysis, and historical records of infrastructure operations.
