Bending capacity of iPVC pipe was tested by CSI group

Three iPVC pipes were tested in October and November, 2022 at the Center for Smart Infrastructure. The pipes were equipped with two types of restraints which were used to restrict the relative movement between the pipes. The pipe is designed to maintain water service after seismic hazards, and is known to be capable of tolerating large deformations. Hence, the tests were designed to test the bending capacity of the pipes under different restraints. Distributed fiber optic sensors were adopted to monitor continuous strain data along the axial and circumferential directions, which provides insights into the pipe failure mechanism.
