Kenichi Soga has completed his term as chairperson of the Technical Committee 105 on Geomechanics from Micro to Macro of the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. This announcement was made during the 5th International Symposium on Geomechanics from Micro to Macro, held in Grenoble, France, from September 23 to 27. The new chairperson is Professor Itai Einav from the University of Sydney.
The goals of TC105 are
- to promote cooperation and exchange of information about the behavior of soil grains and granular interactions;
- to promote improved modeling of soil aggregates;
- to encourage a micro-structural understanding of significant macroscopic behavior;
- to facilitate discussion on the use of micro-structural measurements to enhance soil characterization procedures; and
- to clarify the selection and use of continuum parameters in geotechnical engineering practice.
